Unfortunately I was too slow to score a used water cooler and at the moment I do not want to invest that much in a card with that age anymore, so I went the cheap way. No undervolt helped to get temperatures under control at acceptable fan speeds. I decided to improve the cooling. As I could not find any cheap, used aftermarket coolers and did not really want to do the swap anyway, I thought of improvements for the existing cooler. First idea better fan - did not find any better drop in replacement Second idea remove plastics, add top blower fan - found pictures of the reference cooler, would not help a lot because you can just blow on the outside of the cooler. Third idea help the radial fan - that's the thing I implemented. I bought an 80mm axial fan and mounted it on top of the radial fan to help it move some more air. And it worked! As you can see on the pictures, i just mounted the fan using some tape and cable ties because I was not sure wether it would improve anything and did not want to make any permanent mods to the card for the experiment. The results It's not super silent and super cool now - but I can turn down the onboard fan quite a bit while keeping acceptable temperatures, which really helps with the noise. I am still experimenting, but it seems i can turn it down about 500-800rpm. Overall, the improvement is worth it for me - it's not a lot of effort and even with the more expensive noctua fan it's quite cheap. I'd be interested if anybody else made similar mods to their card.
